One For... A Great Night Out On A Budget

Updated: Jul 13, 2020

When I'm going out for the night I like to plan so that I can go to a couple of places... unless of course, I'm getting two bottles of wine deep.

I always think that there are so many exciting places to go in Glasgow, so don't restrict myself to staying in one place.

Something else I like to do is see how much fun we can have on a budget, and I've found some fab discounts to take advantage of.

First up, Revolution Mitchell St, I feel like all I do is write about their bar - but when the cocktails are as amazing as they are it's hard not to. I get booked onto the Friday Club through their Events Manager Claire occasionally - I realised that I had followed her own account on Instagram for ages just this week, its a small world!

If you haven't heard of the Friday Club, where've you been?! You book in advance with the bar to head along with your friends or your team and the first round is on them, aside from a list of drinks to choose from, no catches!

I picked myself up an Espresso Martini on the house and it was incredible.

I love an espresso martini but Revolution's have a certain 'something' about them. We hung around for a little while but I always feel like I'm totally under everyone's feet when I'm just at the bar.

Revolution also offer selected cocktails for £4.50 Sun - Wed, so definitely somewhere for a midweek drink!

We decided to head on up to

Revolucion De Cuba as I'd managed to wrangle another freebie! I'd been messaged by a member of the marketing team who was keen for me to pick up an

Amigo Card - this card is given free to local businesses and organisations and gives discounts from Monday - Friday. From 2 for 1 tapas to £4.50 cocktails, the Amigo Card has plenty of offers for everyone!

When I visited on a Friday, the place was totally buzzing with live music. Revolucion De Cuba toes the line between bar and restaurant that so many try (and fail) to achieve. As somewhere I'd never been before, I've quickly been converted and will be sure to return to try out some food next time!

Also, if you aren't using 5pm.co.uk for every meal you dine out for - are you living under a rock?!

5pm is possibly the best site for booking dining deals as they can often be booked a mere hour ahead and generally no deposit is required for groups of less than six. I've discovered some amazing restaurants through 5pm and with many offers including drinks, it's a super way to keep the costs down on a night out.

Let's see what offers we could take advantage of this weekend:

Gusto on Bothwell Street is one of the most opulent restaurants I've been to in Glasgow. It has a similar charm to Browns in George Square with its old-timey vibes and classic style.

The deal available here is 20% off a la carte, so let's see what a typical meal for two looks like and what the saving is like.

Warm Rosemary Focaccia Bread (vg) £3.95 with olive oil and aged balsamic

Marinated Nocellara Olives (vg, gf) £3.95

......

3-Meat Homemade Lasagne £12.95 Made with our 3-meat, 5-hour slow cooked ragu, and finished in the pizza oven for a final kiss of flavour

Caprino Pizza (V, N) £11.75 Goats cheese, roasted red peppers, pine kernels, caramelised red onions, pesto, mozzarella, and rocket

.......

Sicilian Lemon Pot £5.95 Made with Limencello Di Capri and served with fresh raspberries, and homemade shortbread biscuits

Vegan Chocolate & Orange Tart (vg, n) £6.50 With fresh raspberries and raspberry coulis

Total : £45.05 > £36.04

La Vita Spuntini on Byres Road takes a different - and personally more preferable - approach to their offer, with the fixed price option working for them.

£15.95 for three tapas, a dessert and a drink.

So for a table of two, what could you expect to tuck into?

Bruschetta Pomodoro (v) Toasted bread topped with a mix of chopped tomato, garlic and extra virgin olive oil

Arancini Formaggio (v) Deep fried balls of risotto rice and Napoli sauce stuffed with mozzarella coated in breadcrumbs, served with dip

Pattate Arrosto (v) Deep fried potato cubes topped with a spicy tomato sauce

Lasagne A classic of La Vita Spuntini pasta sheets with meatballs and Napoli & bechamel sauce

Pizzette Pepperoni 5 classic pepperoni sausage pizza with grated mozzarella cheese & Napoli sauce

Frittata Con Pepperoni E Pattate Italian pepperoni sausage and diced potato frittata

........

Tiramisu

Spuntini dough sticks

This offer is slightly more accessible for an off the cuff meal out, however both have some really attractive features aside from the incredible food that I'll personally vouch for!

Could I be swayed by the free drink in La Vita? I couldn't possibly say...
